Will lifting weights make me bulky?December 6, 2019
Can I Start Even At This Age?!December 13, 2019
Build muscle and lose fat at the same time.
It sounds so simple, right? Why than does everyone struggle with this one?
Well, some people say it’s just impossible. Others say you need to follow “special” forms of dieting and training. Others still say it take steriods.
All are wrong!
The following are my 3 biggest factors to building muscle and getting shredded at the same time:
- Eat at a slight/moderate caloric deficit. – Yup, you guessed it, what you put in your mouth matters. Nutrition usually has the greatest impact on your health/fitness goals. Make sure to be eating at a slight caloric deficit to ensure you’re leaning out consistently. Not sure how many calories you should be eating, or what exactly a macronutrient is and how much of each you should be getting? Then click here!
- Lift heavy weights, and be sure to do some high intensity workouts. – Wait, we do that day in and day out at BTB! Performing compound lifts will not make you bulky (see our last blog for guidance there), but lifting weights and consistently challenging yourself will get you some serious muscles. When you combine those lifts with some high intensity movements like calisthenic/gymnastic movements and even some running, rowing, jump rope, or burpees you’ll really see the results come quick. Add in some dynamic lifts like the squat clean, power snatches, and push jerks and now you’re cooking with fire!
- CONSISTENCY – Most people fizzle out before they even get started but sticking with any workout program for a long period of time more often then not provides better results then anything else I’ve seen in my time as a fitness professional. I know I mention it all the time, but getting in a workout at least 3-4 times a week like the ones I described above, and eating whole foods, not too much, and making sure to get enough protein in daily will yield the best results. But if you just do that plan for a week or 2 it won’t be enough! You need to find the right program, atmosphere, or training buddy to keep you motivated and staying consistent to what you started. Most people are extra motivated when they spend money on their goals. So buy a membership from the right gym, buy some new workout clothes or equipment to keep you in the game for the long term, and the fat will fall off while your muscles will begin to grow and get stronger!
